About Mount Mutiny / Hi8

Mount Mutiny is a seamount similar in many ways to E-6, yet much smaller, located only four miles away and named in honor of Captain Bligh, who passed nearby shortly after the mutiny on the Bounty. This dive takes place on a seamount that rises from depths of around 1000m, so the diver can drop down the sheer wall to a depth that suits them and slowly make their way up to the surface. The diver is likely to find hammerhead sharks, sweetlips and barracuda all patrolling the waters off the wall and hundreds of small reef fish, including anthias and angelfish, swarming around the soft corals on it. On the wall the diver will find overhangs and undercuts that house the unusual Siphonogoria soft coral which has very thin branches. Other soft coral of every colour imaginable can be found on the wall and they plunge away into the darkness, so the diver has to be very wary of their depth through out the dive. It is quite easy for the diver to be taken in by all of the colour and find themselves deeper than planned. If the diver chooses to explore the shallows at the top of the seamount before descending they will find a lovely hard coral garden and a number of anemones scattered around. This is a brilliant spot for underwater photography.
