SS Carnatic

This good wreck dive is located near to Giannis D.She lies on her port side near the reef here at a depth of 25 meters.It is a very nice dive and one of the most interesting wreck dives in the Red Sea,it is said there was about Forty Thousand pounds onboard when she sank,of which not all has been salvaged. This sailing ship was built in the mid 19th century and was almost 100 meters long and weighed 1776 tons.She sank in 1869 when it ran onto a reef in quiet conditions and not much was thought of it until a squall later tipped her onto her port side and began to sink,27 lives were lost during the incident.She now lies at a depth of around 30 meters and is home to the largest collection of coral growth on a wreck anywhere in the area.While the wreck is broken into two parts it doesn't change what a wonderful wreck dive this is.There is various fish life in and around the wreck and the wreck itself lays upon a reef.The engine and boilers are still easily found on this wreck
