About Sigerslev Kridtbrud

Sigerslev Chalk Break is one of the more accessible places at Stevns - compared to the otherwise high cliffs down to the coast. And while one of the most spectacular since chalk formation is most pronounced here. The difference between chalk and limestone is that the chalk contains more than 90% calcit or kalkspat. The term lime is used for instances with less calcit. Chalk is formed during the Chalk for some time. 100-65 million years ago. The remnants of shields after the single-celled, microscopic calcareous algae, also called coccolitter. The large T-shaped pier is owned by Omya A / S, extracting chalk, and supplies products for paper, construction, paint and garden industry. Omya A / S is also a member of the Green Business Network. So one must assume that lime emissions taking place in pact with nature. Man diving from the beach to the southwest of the pier, and will not come too close to the area where discharged lime from the factory.
