About Nordens Kridtgrav (Hasseris)

Nordens Chalk 'grave' or quarry (Hasseris) Max Depth 12 meters. Mainly from 3 to 15 meters. Nordens chalk pits in Hasseris, Aalborg, is as the name suggests an abandoned chalk pit. In a period from 1900 to 1940 Nordic cement dug chalk on the ground. In 1974, Aalborg Municipality took over the entire area and in the 80s was then opened to the public. The lake is 12.6 hectares and is 600 meters long and 200 meters wide and 12 meters deep at the deepest place. Chalk pond is surrounded by a high slope, which is between 10 and 25 meters high. It is only in the place, as specified in the driving directions that it is possible to arrive at the lake. In the lake you'll find the usual batch of bicycles and mopeds, and toppled trees. Depth decreases quite rapidly to the maximum 12 meters and is designed to be maintained just such a well, it is important that you keep away from the bottom as you quickly muck vertebrae sediment up.

Dive Site Hazards

  • Edge-Accelerated Currents — Currents often strengthen along drop-off edges.

  • Depth Perception Distortion — Visual contrast can distort perceived depth.

  • Terrain-Induced Descent — Divers may unintentionally follow terrain downward.

  • Misleading Line Tension — Line tension changes can give false cues about exit direction.

  • Cold-Induced Gas Consumption — Cold stress increases breathing rate and gas usage.

  • Reduced Failure Tolerance — Minor equipment issues escalate rapidly due to cold and dexterity loss.

  • Landmark Misidentification — Familiar sites can become unrecognisable at night.

  • Light-Induced Tunnel Vision — Focused light beams reduce peripheral awareness.

  • Depth Perception Errors — Reduced ambient light increases depth perception mistakes.

  • Unstable Visual Ascents — Relying on wall visuals can destabilise ascents.

  • Gradual Depth Creep — Lack of visual bottom reference can cause unnoticed descent.

  • Unsignalled Downcurrents — Downcurrents can form without visible indicators.

  • Navigation Ambiguity — Lack of reference points makes exits harder to relocate.

  • Unnoticed Depth Drift — Featureless terrain can cause slow, unnoticed depth changes.

  • Camouflaged Hazardous Species — Hazardous marine life may remain unnoticed until very close.

  • Thermocline Buoyancy Shift — Sharp thermoclines can cause sudden buoyancy changes.

  • Instant Visibility Collapse — Sediment disturbance can eliminate visibility immediately.

  • Late Detection of Structures — Submerged structures may only appear at very close range.
