About C.B. Benson

The Benson is one of our most popular wrecks. Sitting upright in 78' of fresh water, this 3 masted barquentine schooner, built in 1873 was one of the first shipwrecks to start crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Ireland with corn opening up Canada and the US as trade countries over 7 years of service running out to trade routes between the British Isles and South America. In a massive storm in Lake Erie the Benson was no match for the gale that sank her and her crew. The Benson is largely intact and features a beautiful windlass, dead-eyes, ships wheel, blocks, bilge pumps, anchor, lifeboat davits and much more.
