About The Ipiranga

Brazilian corvette (small destroyer). It is sitting upright in the sand in about 200' of water. There is a mooring ball on the wreck so we descended down the line. The visibility was great and I experienced an incredible panoramic view of the entire wreck as I approached the bow from above. The ship ran aground and sank in 1987 and my first impression of it was her size and the amount of marine life and coverage. I dropped down to the screws and my computer read 181'. Even though the viz was good I was glad that I had my HID light in order to bring out the color on the wreck. While on the wreck I got to almost circle it and penetrate it a little. This is a world class, no touch, no take wreck. There is a lawn chair sitting on the bow deck next to the gun and inside the radio room the microphone is still in place.
