About Petrie's Pillar

This is a good dive for beginners. It is accessible by shore only. The terrain is much like that of Andrea I and II. It was named by Captain Don as a wedding gift for a friend. Most of the shallow corals were destroyed by the waves from hurricane Lenny in 1999. The shallows are now littered with algae covered rubble, several feet deep, making the entry very slippery and dangerous. The shallows here are excellent - comparing well with thatof Tori's Reef. On the reef, you'll see a good coverage of hard corals and sponges.
