Lartington Wreck

The Lartington was built in England and launched in June 1875. Mike Davis, A local Marine Historian reports that the Lartington was enroute form Savannah to Russia with 4000 bales of cotton. She ran into strong South Easterly Gale wind which washed away her cargo and causing the sea to crack her stern. She began taking on water and the Captain steered toward Bermuda where she soon ran aground near the Western Blue Cut. Beautiful bottom topography with a excellent display of marine life and corals in abundance.
