About Raging Horn

Osprey Reef lies 130 kilometers off the Great Barrier Reef 200 kilometers from the mainland. The reef runs north-west to south-east and clocks 30 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide. There is only one entrance to the 25 to 27 meters deep lagoon more or less two thirds from the southern point to the northern point. It takes 10 to 12 hours by boat overnight. The reef runs from south-east to north-west and the other part from north-east to south-west. Southerly there's a 20 meters drop off to 30 and on the west its reaches 100 m. The gulley drops of to the east at 40 m and then you will see the main wall. Currents run south - the mooring is 200 meters south and you can drift back. There is a FAD (fish attraction device) here. Go 50m past this. Once you have dropped off (vis is usually 40 meters) you'll spot the FAD on the ridge. Head to it and then hook along the ridge, NW. It goes from 20 -30m. .Take your camera! The main wall is right. Head over it and you'll see sharks and mantas! There is a slope at the end of the ridge - 400m deep. You can hang here at about 30 for ten minutes and then go across the valley check the current so work along the ridge then head near the wall till you see the corner. It hooks right for 50m north-easterly and the mooring is at the 8m bommie. You can hang here at 20 m then look around past the mooring where a gully juts into the reef. Take your camera!
