About Coogee

This wreck was a three masted iron screw steamer. She was built in 1887 and sold in 1888 to a Melbourne Citizen. She ran between Melbourne and Geelong, as well as the passenger ferry run that was between Melbourne and Launceston for 41 years. She was also used as a Navy mine sweeper. She had a number of collisions during this period but was always repaired. In 1928 she became too expensive to keep maintaining and therefore was stripped and dynamited. The bottom consists of flat limestone and sand. This is a very interesting dive with a large variety of marine life to explore and a number of artifacts from the wreck to explore. This site is recommended for adviced divers only due to strong currents and depth of the waters.
