About Colbat Caves

The site is mainly bommies near the mooring at the reef (7m). This slopes off to 35m and then drops off again to past 400m! The mooring itself is on a bommie. The current sweeps a stream of sand between the bommies and look out for the amazing coral as well as the grey reef sharks and rays. Head toward the shallower area between the bommmies in the direction of the sand stream and pass the gullies that run parallel and then those that are at right angles to the reef. Keep going west and you'll see a sandy plateau 50m long. There's another gully after that with lots of reef sharks in the sand and the gully here that you used to arrive down leads back up to the main bommie. On its northern side therres a 30m wide stream of sand flowing check the one at 45degrees and you'll follow it to a bommie with a small cave. Take your camera- these aren't the only caverns to explore in this area'There's lots to see on top of the bommies too and the waters nice and warm at 26degrees vis can be 20m.
