About Boca Grandi

This dive site is located on the private grounds of San Juan along with three other dive sites: Playa Mansalina, Big Sponge, and Playa Largu. This beach is out of the way and offers good diving only when the conditions are right. There are almost never people here; if you are looking for a private beach, this is it! There are no facilities here, so bring plenty of water and snacks. This site is suitable for all levels of divers. The beach is a sandy coral mix. Entrance is easy. Current and waves are usually minimal. Towards the left side of the bay you'll find some healthy coral formations at depths of 3 - 4.5 meter, making this a nice snorkelling site along the cliffs. The drop-off is about 137 meter straight out from shore across a sandy bottom. The reef wall starts in 7 meter of water, gradually dropping to 33 meter. Directions: Boca Grandi is on the East coast of the Southern tip of the island. Heading East out of San Nicolas, you'll come to a 'T' in the road with an anchor in the center (see the entrance for Bachelor's Beach). Bear left, and then turn right in 500m into the parking area for the beach.
